Rice Game Notes l Harvard Game Notes
Rice University will look to rebound from a loss to No. 2 Texas earlier in the week when the Owls travel to Harvard Wednesday. The game is part of a rare double-header with Harvard's women's team playing earlier in the evening. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. Central Time. The game can be heard in Houston on ESPN 97.5 as well as via the worldwide web at RiceOwls.com.
Wednesday's game is a return contest for Rice. The Owls played host to and defeated Harvard 67-63 last season in Houston.
Despite allowing a 14-for-21 performance from three-point range by the Crimson, Rice was able to regain the lead in the final minute and hold on for a win in the first game played in the series.
Departed senior Rodney Foster led Rice with 18 points, nailing a three-pointer with 40 seconds to play that put the Owls ahead 62-61. Lucas Kuipers had a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double for Rice.
Jeremy Lin, who scored 17 points in last year's meeting, returns for his senior year and is averaging 16.3 points, 5.0 assists and 4.7 rebounds to lead the Crimson this season.
Sophomore guard Oliver McNally is averaging 10.3 points per game, shooting 48 percent from the field and has made 10-of-23 three-point attempts.
Harvard is off to a 5-1 start and coming off a 78-70 road win across town at Boston University on Sunday.
Rice enters Wednesday's game at 4-2.
Over its recent two-game home stand, junior center Trey Stanton averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field. Prior to a career-high 23 points against Furman last week, he had made just 4-of-18 field goal attempts through the Owls' first four games.
Connor Frizzelle and Tamir Jackson are the team's co-leaders in scoring. Both average averaging 10 points per game.
Frizzelle struggled against Texas, going 0-for-10 from the field. He began the season by knocking down 10-of-14 three-point attempts over the course of the Owls' first three games. Jackson leads the team in minutes played (33.3), assists (17) and steals (14).
Following Wednesday's game, Rice is back at home Saturday afternoon when the Owls take on North Texas at 2 p.m. in Tudor Fieldhouse.
