Bradshaw Earns C-USA Defensive Honor

Rice sophomore safety Travis Bradshaw has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his standout effort in the Owls' 30-29 victory over UTEP on Saturday at Rice Stadium.
The sophomore was credited with 13 tackles, including one for a loss of three yards, and forced a pair of as the Owls closed out their home schedule with back-to-back wins. He made nine of his 13 tackles in the second half as the Owls held Donald Buckram, the leading rusher in the conference, to just 32 yards on 16 carries in addition to a pair of fumbles in the fourth quarter.
After Rice closed the gap to 29-24 with 9:05 left in the game, Bradshaw knocked the ball loose on the ensuing kickoff return to set up the Owls at the UTEP 26. Four plays later, Rice took the lead for good. With 2:03 left in the game and the ball at the Rice 39, he caused Buckram to fumble and allow the Owls to run out the clock.
The 13 tackles were Bradshaw's fifth consecutive game in double-figures, his sixth this year and his 11th in 17 career starts. He leads the country with 84 unassisted tackles, and is fourth in C-USA with an average of 10 total tackles per game. He is second in the league with four forced fumbles this year.
This is Bradshaw's second career conference player of the week award, He was honored last year as a freshman for his efforts against Marshall. He is also a two-time ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA District VI academic team selection with a 3.37 GPA in Chemical Engineering.
