SFA Beats Rice 92 to 82

Nacogdoches, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State rallied from a 13-point half-time deficit to defeat the visiting Rice Owls in a high-scoring affair 92 to 82 in front of 2,153 fans in Johnson Coliseum. Rice is now 0-3 on the season, while SFA improves to 2-0.
SFA was behind 40 to 27 at intermission, but scored 65 points in the second-half to secure the victory. The Ladyjacks only shot 28 percent in the first 20 minutes, but was able to connect on 58 percent after the break, including 7-11 (64 percent) from three-point land. They were also able to score 15 points in the second-half off of 11 Rice turnovers.
The Owls shot 47 percent for the game and outrebounded SFA 54 to 35, but could not clinch the win.
SFA's Whitney Cormier led all scorers with 24 points, while Jordan Ford and Antoinette Davis added 16 and 12 points respectively. Ford also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Freshman Lacey Neu came of the bench to led four Owls in double-digit scoring with a career-high 14 points. Neu also had snared a team-high 8 rebounds. Jackie Stanley had 13 points and 2 block shots, while reserve guard Amenemope McKinney poured in a season-high 12 points.
Also in double-digits was Tara Watts with 11 points with 5 rebounds.
The Owls now host UALR on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a basketball double-dip. Rice's men's basketball team (3-1) hosts Furman following the women's game.
