
Owls Win Seven Events at Texas Twilight

Funmi Jimoh won the 100-meter hurdles and Rice athletes won six other events Saturday at the Texas Twilight meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Jimoh won with a wind-aided 13.39 seconds, her fastest time ever under any conditions.
Shakera Reece sprinted to gold in the 100, clocking 11.66, and also helped the Owls win the 4x100 relay with a time of 45.95. Other individual wins on the track came from Lennie Waite in the 1500 and Susie Barrows in the 3000. Waite won the metric mile by more than four seconds in 4:44.27, while Barrows had a lifetime best of 9:56.64 for the victory.
Shardee Caesar was the top field event performer for Rice, winning the triple jump with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 12.43m/40-9.5, while Ulrika Hinson won the javelin with a throw of 42.60 meters/139-9. Jimoh was second in the long jump with a wind-aided 6.50m/21-4 to finish behind former Owl Alice Falaiye of Canada, and Rachel Greff claimed second in the pole vault with a clearance at 3.65m/11-11.75.
Rice will host the Rice Twilight meet Thursday at the Rice Track & Soccer Stadium.
