COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- In a reunion of former Southwest Conference foes, the Rice women were stopped by No. 14 Texas A&M in a 6-1 decision at College Station on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Julie Chao scored the Owls' lone point of the day, sweeping Sarah Foster 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, junior Tiffany Lee took the first set, but was edged by the Aggies' 83rd-ranked Elza Potgieter in the third-set, super tie-break 1-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Playing at No. 1 doubles, Chao and Lee's upset bid was averted by the 42nd-ranked tandem of Foster and Tiffany Clifford, 8-7 (4).
The Owls have a week off before returning to action on April 9 when they host No. 22 Pepperdine at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium at noon.
