Owls Fall to 26th-Ranked Horned Frogs

HOUSTON -- The 70th-ranked Rice women had their hands full against No. 26 TCU before faltering in a 6-1 loss on Saturday in dual-match action at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
Freshman Rebecca Lin struck the lone blow for the Owls, sweeping Andrea Morgado 6-3, 6-4 at five singles. Rice junior Christine Dao went up a set against No. 23 Ana Cetnik at two singles, but the Horned Frog recovered in the second frame to force a third. Down 5-2 in the third, Dao rallied to trail by one, but it wasn't enough as Cetnik held on for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision. Dominique Karas, a redshirt sophomore, also had a strong showing for the Owls against Kewa Nichols at four singles, rallying in to force a second set tiebreak. Karas, though, couldn't quote turn the corner in 6-3, 7-6 (4) loss.
TCU swept all three doubles matches to score the first point of the day.
Rice hits the road next week next week, traveling to Utah on Tuesday and No. 32 BYU on Thursday.
