Head Coach Willis Wilson
Rice is coached by Willis Wilson, who is in his 16th season as head coach of his alma mater. Wilson's school and career record stands at 216-220. Overall, he is in his 23rd year at the University. After enrolling in 1978 and playing basketball for four years, Wilson earned his degree in political science in 1982. He served five years as an assistant at Rice and one at Stanford before being named head coach in 1992. In 2004, he was named the NABC District 9 Coach of the Year.
Autry Court Renovations
Autry Court will finally undergo major renovations starting July 13, 2007. A $7 million gift from Rice University trustee and alumnus Bobby Tudor and his wife, Phoebe, allows Rice to move forward with a renovation of Autry Court. The Tudors' gift goes toward a $23 million renovation of Autry Court that will reconfigure and modernize its seating layout and support facilities. At the same time, the adjoining offices and locker room complex will be demolished and replaced by a new structure. Noted sports architectural firm HOK has been retained to design and implement the renovations.
Career-highs for Packevicius
Paulius Packevicius scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in notching his first-ever double-double in the game at TCU on Tuesday (11/13/07). Packevicius made 5-9 from the field and 5-7 at the charity stripe. He also had 3 blocks and a steal in 28 minutes of action.
Williams Nets 7
Freshman Jasen Williams scored 7 points in his collegiate debut at TCU in 14 minutes. Williams also registered 2 rebounds and 1 steal.
Assist Man
Sophomore Chris Hagan is the Owls' leading returning assist man. Hagan passed out 77 assists as a freshman last season to rank second on the team behind Lorenzo Williams (146). He had 3 assists in the season opener at TCU.
