Sendejo and Bilaye-Benibo Up for Academic Honors

Andrew Sendejo and Bio Bilaye-Benibo, are among an honored group of college football players who remain in contention to be named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americant® Football Team. Voting among by the members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) began on Tuesday and will conclude on November 20. The 2007 team will be announced on November 26.
Sendejo and Bilaye-Benibo were named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6® Football Team last week. This is the first honor for Sendejo, a sophomore from Canyon Lake, who has a 3.47 GPA in Kinesiology. He was a member of the 2007 Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He leads the Owls this season with 83 tackles this season, and leads C-USA with four interceptions. He scored his first career touchdown last Saturday, returning an interception 31 yards for a score against SMU.
This is Bilaye-Benibo's second consecutive District 6 honor. The senior running back from Corpus Christi who carries a 3.42 GPA in Political Science, was named a Rice University Scholar Athlete in 2007 and was a member of the 2006 & 2007 Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and the 2004 & 2005 Western Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large and women's at-large. A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. Football consists of just first and second teams.
