PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Rice senior Blair DiSesa fell 6-1, 6-2 to UCLA's Tracy Lin in the first round of the NCAA singles championships on Wednesday in Palo Alto, Calif.
The players split the first two games before Lin, ranked 46th, managed to win five straight games to snare the first set and the momentum. The 78th-ranked DiSesa kept fighting in the second but could not overpower Lin.
Despite the loss, DiSesa ends her collegiate career as one of the best singles players ever at Rice, ranking fifth all-time with 92 victories. She was named the 2006 Conference USA player of the year after leading the Owls to their first-ever league title. Her invitation to the NCAA championship was the first individual bid since the doubles team of Vessie Ivanova and Sarah Borwell in 1998, and the first bid in the singles tournament since Wendy Wood in 1986.
