Hinson, Walwyn Win Silver at TSU Relays

Ulrika Hinson won her third silver medal of the weekend and Desarie Walwyn sprinted to silver in the 200-meters to highlight Rice women's performances Saturday at the Texas Southern University Relays at Durley Field.
Hinson, who placed second in the javelin and discus on Friday, threw the shot put 12.83 meters/42-1.25 to nab the silver. Walwyn clocked 24.54 for second place in the 200, with teammate LaToya Adekoya ninth at 25.35.
Sophomore Chandra Ewing ran her second straight personal best in the 400-meter hurdles, taking third overall at 63.00, while Lennie Waite led a 2-3-4-5 Rice finish in the 1500 with a 4:40.25 effort. Brandi Armstrong was third behind Waite at 4:43.52, with Claire Shorall fourth at 4:44.52, and Lauren Murphy fifth at 4:47.16.
Leah McKay won bronze in the 3000 with a time of 10:58.84, one place ahead of teammate Malin Fuglesang, who finished fourth in 11:15.38.
Shardee Caesar placed seventh in the triple jump at 11.22/36-9.75, and the Owls garnered eighth-place in the 4x200 relay at 1:41.57.
Rice hosts the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic Friday and Saturday at the Rice Track and Soccer Stadium.
