Rolf Kruger Bowl Diary

Today was it, the last regular practice of my college career and it was raining. I guess it was icing on the cake that we had to stop practice for about 30 minutes because of lightening. It actually was kinda nice. We came into the locker room here at Tulane and just hung out together. Just joked around and enjoy some time where we had nothing to do but crack some jokes and make fun of guys like (David) Berken, Hambone (Scott Austin) and Ryan Craig.
This morning we were taken on a bus tour in the Lower 9th Ward to view the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. I know it's been said by other people, but it's really true...you just don't comprehend the devastation until you see it for yourself. I had watched it on the news but nothing came close to getting the full picture until you see it for yourself.
The seniors and Coach Graham were also taken to visit some patients at the Children's Hospital before we went to practice. I had never really seen things like that and it was sad. It made me realize how fortunate and lucky we are to have our health.
Tonight we are going to eat at Commander's Palace, and even though we have to put on a coat and tie, I am looking forward to getting a good meal. I'm one of the guys who doesn't know how to tie a tie so I can't really say anything about anyone else who might be having a problem with theirs. I did check, and we don't have a team rule about clip-ons, but I'm sure I'll find someone to help me out so I won't have to go that route.
Tomorrow is a light day, we get the rest of our bowl gifts, go to some kind of public luncheon and have a walk through at the Superdome. I'm looking forward to getting on that field, because I was hurt and didn't play against Tulane earlier this year.
They tell me there are a bunch of Rice fans headed our way and should start arriving tomorrow. It will be great to see some Rice gear walking around, getting ready for the game.
That's all for now.....
