Swimmers To Compete at Indiana Invitational Nov. 17-19

The Rice swim team returns to action this weekend, Nov. 17-19, against an elite six-team field competing in the annual Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The Owls take on Cincinnati, Purdue, Vermont, Washington State and host Indiana in a 20-event, three-day meet.
The Invitational is a scaled-down version of the Conference USA and NCAA Championships to be held in the spring. The meet features 18 swimming events, including five relays, with two diving events. Rice enters the Invitational with a winning 4-3 dual meet record, but there will be no team-scoring of any kind this weekend. Owls' head coach Seth Huston stated that not only does the Invitational's format provide for a challenging weekend, two of the teams (Indiana and Purdue) are nationally-ranked among the nation's top 25 programs.
"We are really looking forward to this weekend," Huston said. "It's going to be like a preview of competing at our conference championships. We are interested in seeing how we match-up against ranked teams, but there are some really fast times from all the teams from one event to the next. We want to have our best performances of the season and the mindset to be competitive to win each race."
