HOUSTON - Rice posted a pair of 6-0 victories over Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern, sweeping all 12 singles matches, Friday afternoon at the Downtown Club at the Met.
Senior Robert Searle, ranked 36th nationally, led the 35th-ranked Owls with a 6-1, 6-3 win against the Panthers' Kudzai Chiridza and a 6-2, 6-4 victory over the Tigers' Ivan Avila, both at number-one singles. Freshman Christoph Müller made his collegiate debut with a pair of wins at the three slot, dropping Prairie View's Andy Narido 6-0, 6-2 and TSU's Kurt Gattiker 6-1, 6-0.
With both matches decided in singles, doubles was not played.
The Owls hit the road next week, playing at 48th-ranked Michigan on Feb. 3 and 73rd-ranked Michigan State on Feb. 5.
