Rice Falls At 28th-Ranked Pepperdine

LOS ANGELES - Facing their second top-30 team in two days, Rice suffered a 7-0 loss at the hands of 28th-ranked Pepperdine on Friday afternoon in Malibu, Calif.
The sophomore tandem of Christine Dao and Tiffany Lee struck for the Owls with an 8-6 victory against the Waves' Lise Sissler and Jelena Jovic at number three doubles. Pepperdine won at one and two doubles to take the point.
In singles action, senior Blair DiSesa, ranked 31st, kept 15th-ranked Bianca Dulgheru of Pepperdine on the ropes before succumbing in a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) loss at the top spot. Senior Medeja Egic also went three at number-five singles before the Waves' Eva Dickes edged out the win in a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9) decision.
The loss drops Rice's record to 2-2 on the year. The Owls hit the road again next week, traveling to Baton Rouge, La., to take on 43rd-ranked LSU on Feb. 4.
