LSU Avoids Rice Upset Bid

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The 55th-ranked Rice women, playing their third-consecutive ranked foe on the road, came just short of upsetting 42nd-ranked LSU in a 4-3 decision on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La.
The Tigers struck first, sweeping doubles to take the first point of the day. LSU extended its lead in singles, winning at the two and three positions to go up 3-0. The Owls' Blair DiSesa, ranked 31st, got her team on the scoreboard with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Mykala Hedberg at the top spot. It wasn't enough as LSU took the team win with a three-set descision at number six.
Also for Rice, Medeja Egic scored a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win against Tiffany Tucker at number five then Tiffany Lee rallied to defeat Anastasiya Dubova 2-6, 7-5, 11-9 at the four position for the final score.
The Owls return home on Friday when they host 33rd-ranked Mississippi State in a 3 pm match at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
