Women's Tennis: Owls Blast Spartans 4-0
4/21/2005 HONOLULU - Rice made quick work of San Jose State, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Western Athletic Conference Championships, Thursday, at the Univ. of Hawaii Tennis Complex.
Rice took the early lead and the doubles point after winning the two and three positions. In singles action, freshman Dominique Karas blanked Kathy Van at number four to give the Owls the 2-0 lead. Then Tracie Chong, a senior from Honolulu, downed Courtney Koenigsfeld 6-1, 6-1 at number three, and freshman Kimberley Patenaude blasted June Lee 6-2, 6-0 at number two, securing the team victory.
The top-seeded Owls advance to the semifinals for the third consecutive year. They will face Boise State, a 4-2 winner over Tulsa, at 8 pm (CDT) on Friday.
