SAN DIEGO - Rice senior Blair DiSesa and Madeja Egic were victorious in the singles championships of their draws at the San Diego State Fall Tennis Classic as the Owls finished strong in their final fall tournament on Sunday in San Diego, Calif.
Competing in the Red singles draw, DiSesa scored her third-consecutive, straight-set win to take the crown, beating Long Beach State's Katy Williams 6-1, 7-5. Egic, playing in the Gold singles draw, edged out Georgia Tech's Kacie Anson 7-6 (6), 2-6, 10-6 for the victory.
Also for Rice, newcomer Tiffany Lee blasted San Diego's Helene Lindstrand 6-2, 6-1 to win the Black singles consolation draw.
The Owls open the 2006 dual-match season on Jan. 21 when they host Lamar and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a double header at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
