Three more swimmers have signed national letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic pursuits at Rice, head coach Doug Boyd announced Thursday.
Jenny Voight is a multiple-time Junior National finalist from Los Altos, Calif., who swims the individual medley and butterfly. She also competes for the Santa Clara Swim Club.
Corrie Kristick, who swims distance freestyle and individual medley, is from Colorado Springs, Colo. She is a Junior National qualifier and competes for the Colorado Springs Swim Team.
Adi Bichman from Kiriat-Ono, Israel, was a 2000 Olympian in Sydney. She finished fifth at the 2000 European Championships in the 800-meter freestyle and was world-ranked in the event in 2000. Bichman competes for the Wingtate Institute and swims the individual medley, breaststroke and butterfly. Boyd went overseas for the second year in a row, landing Australian Toni Ciffolilli last year.
The addition of the three swimmers brings the 2001 recruiting class total to five. Voight, Kristick and Bichman join Lauren Hill of Bellevue, Wash., and Kiana Taheri of San Jose, Calif., who both committed to Rice during the early signing period in the fall.
"Without discrediting last year's freshman class -- because it was a great one -- this year's incoming class looks to be our best one yet," Boyd said. "We have signed a world-ranked distance swimmer in addition to the top high school senior 200 IMer in the U.S.
"We are very much looking forward to the year upcoming. I am hoping to see Rice swimming make strides forward again next year."
