Athletic Awards for 1999-2000

In women's sports, senior Marla Brumfield received the Gene Hackerman Award as the outstanding Rice women's basketball player in 2000, taking the award for the third-straight year, and sophomore Rachel Armstrong was honored with the Catherine Hannah Award for the most valuable swimmer. Senior Kelly Smith received the Hally Beth Poindexter Award in volleyball.
Sports with ongoing seasons presented 1998-99 awards. A senior in 1999, Justyna Gudzowska won the Kay Pearson Keating Award for women's tennis. In track and field and cross country, current senior Shaquandra Roberson took the Fred and Florence Stancliff Award and junior Erin Brand taking the Eva Jean Lee Award.
Junior Mike Wilks was named the outstanding athlete in the sport of men's basketball, winning the Billy Wohn Award; while senior Chad Richardson took home the George Martin Award as the outstanding Rice football player. In men's tennis, freshman Matthias Mathaes was the Sammy Giammalva Award winner for the current season.
1999 awards were presented in baseball, golf, and track and field. The Dell Morgan Award, which honors the baseball team's most outstanding player, was received by 1999 senior Damon Thames, his second year to claim the honor. Current junior Lachlan McArthur won the Fred and Florence Stancliff Award, while Andrew Burrow, a senior, was awarded the Emmett Brunson Award, both in track and field. Golfer C.W. Mallon was honored with the Vic Cameron Award for the second time.
Cafferty and Margaret Fox (track) received the Fred Stancliff/"R" Association Scholarships, to be put toward post-graduate scholarship, Gene and Jeanne Walker received the Rice Spirit Award for their support at Rice sporting events.
