Hill is a two-time Washington state champion, capturing the 100 breaststroke title in 1999 and the 200 individual medley crown in 2000. She was also the 1999 U.S.S. Junior National Champion in the 200 breaststroke and an Olympic Trials qualifier in the event this past summer.
Hill, who swims for the Bellevue Club under Klaas Schenk, is also a member of the National Honor Society.
"(Lauren) is one of the most decorated signees to date here at Rice," head coach Doug Boyd said. "I feel she has a lot of room to improve, and we are looking forward to her four years at Rice."
Taheri should provide depth for the Owls in the freestyle and butterfly events. She is a Junior National qualifier in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyles and in the 100 fly.
Taheri swims for San Jose Aquatics under 1992 Olympic Gold medalist Pablo Morales.
