Swimming: Owls Head to Austin for Texas Invitational

The Owls will face top-ranked UCLA, No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 California, No. 9 Michigan, No. 10 Texas, No. 11 Michigan, No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 14 SMU, No. 16 Arizona State, No. 18 Minnesota, No. 22 Nebraska and TCU.
Rice will be led by juniors Beth Williams and Katie Scholl, who have both posted top 25 times in the nation this season. Williams recorded a 2:18.03 in the 200-yard breaststroke and a 4:23.41 in the 400 individual medley. Scholl clocked a 10:07.98 in the 1,000 freestyle. The 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Mandy Mularz, junior Katie Hermann, senior Kim Maher and junior Rachel Armstrong recorded a 3:29.27, also one of the nation's top times.
The Owls will get a glipse of what to expect from the Western Athletic Conference as they compete against SMU's Sarah Chandler, Shea Fitgerald, Lauren Silva and the TCU Horned Frogs.
Rice will also get to see Cal and Michigan for the second time this season, as both competed at the Continental Airlines Classic and Rice Invitational Nov. 10-11 at Rice Pool. Cal freshman Natalie Coughlin broke four pool records, and Michigan freshman and Olympic gold medalist Samantha Arsenault broke two.
Prelims begin at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday, with the finals at 6 p.m. The action concludes Sunday with 9:30 a.m. prelims and 3 p.m. finals.
