Swimming: Owls swept in North Carolina

The Owls were outscored by No. 9 North Carolina, 201.5-83.5, Saturday after a 149-88 loss to North Carolina State Friday night in Raleigh.
Junior Rachel Armstrong took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.27 and was second in the 100 free with a time of 52.98, just behind UNC's Charlene Wong at 52.89. Armstrong was also the first leg of the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team with a time of 1:38.38.
Sophomore Mandy Mularz, senior Kim Maher and junior Jordan Hollsten were the other members of the relay team.
Mularz recorded a time of 24.04 in the 50 free to take second behind UNC's Jessi Perruquet, who clocked in at 23.86. Junior Elizabeth Williams took the 400 individual medley at 4:32.50, followed by freshman Toni Ciffolilli at 4:37.68.
In one of the day's most closely-contested events, freshman Elaine Lee finished the 100 butterfly in 59.23, just behind UNC's Melissa Fiss at 59.12 and Christy Watkins at 59.21.
The Owls (0-2) will return to action when they host the Continental Airlines Classic on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and the Rice Invitational on Nov. 11 at noon. Both events will be held at Rice Pool.
