Crabtree, a sophomore from Duncanville, Texas (Duncanville HS), hit two field goals and two extra points in a 20-17 win over Navy. It was Rice's first win of the year. He equaled his career-long with a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter and then won the game with a 31-yarder with 2:27 left. He is still perfect in his career with eight field goals and 21 PATs over 10 games.
TCU running back LaDainian Tomlinson was honored as the WAC offensive player of the week, while Hawai`i linebacker Jeff Ulbrich earned the weekly defensive honor.
Tomlinson, a junior from Waco, Texas (University HS), rushed for a career-high 269 yards and two touchdowns on a school-record tying 40 attempts to lead TCU to its first win of the season, a 24-21 victory at Arkansas State. On his first carry of the game, Tomlinson broke off a career-best 79-yard run for a touchdown. The 269 rushing yards ranks third on the school's single-game rushing list.
Ulbrich, a senior from Morgan Hill, Calif. (Live Oak, HS/Gavilan College), tallied 16 tackles (nine solo) to help the Hawai`i defense shut out SMU, 20-0. Of the 16 tackles, four were for losses of 20 yards and one was a sack for a nine-yard loss. Ulbrich leads the Rainbow Warriors with 59 tackles on the season.
