Women's Swimming: Owls Defeat North Texas

For the second day in a row, sophomore April Martin led the Owls, winning three individual events and leading off the winning 200-yard freestyle-relay team. In the 200-yard freestyle, Martin led a Rice sweep of the top three spots, finishing in 1:56.34. Senior Rachel Doyle and sophomore Beth Williams finished second and third, respectively, in the event. Williams also sprinted to victory in the 50-yard free, finishing with the time of 25.70, and swam with the 200 free-relay team.
Also winning multiple events were sophomore Katie Scholl and freshman Mandy Mularz. Scholl won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:13.53, then edged Williams at the wall by .06 seconds to win the 100-yard fly in 1:00.03. After winning the 100-yard free in 54.18, Mularz led the field in the 200-yard individual medley with the time of 2:13.97.
The Owls also swept the top three places in the 100-yard backstroke. Sophomore Jordan Hollsten paced the field, winning in 1:01.50. Junior Jada Sanders edged sophomore Rachel Armstrong for second, finishing in 1:03.15 to Armstrong's 1:03.69.
The Rice women next compete Dec. 3-5 in the Texas Invitational at Austin.
