Women's Swimming: Rice Sinks TCU

Sophomore April Martin set the pace for her team, winning three individual events and leading off the victorious 200-yard medley-relay team. In the 100-yard backstroke, Martin edged the TCU's Marisa Schenke with the time of 58.33, as Schenke finished in 58.59. Martin was also victorious in the 200-yard backstroke, with the time of 2:03.55, and the 100-yard butterfly, in 58.57.
Sophomore Katie Scholl also won multiple events, finishing first in both the 1,000-yard freestyle, with the time of 10:10.69, and the 200-yard butterfly, in 2:08.93, edging teammate Jada Sanders by .05 seconds. Scholl also finished a close second to senior Rachel Doyle in the 500-yard freestyle. Doyle touched the wall first in 5:02.13 with Scholl a breath behind her, finishing with the time of 5:02.44.
Freshman Mandy Mularz also made a splash for the Rice women, winning the 50-yard free in 24.40 and swimming a leg with the winning 200 medley-relay team.
The Owls return to action Saturday when they host North Texas at 1 pm at the Rice Pool in the Rice Gymnasium.
