Sophia Yero enters her fifth season with the Rice volleyball program in 2026 and her third as director of volleyball operations after serving as the program's Graduate Assistant during the 2022-2023 season2.
As Director of Volleyball Operations, Yero oversees all aspects of the program's day-to-day operations, including team travel, scheduling, budgeting, equipment and apparel management, and coordination with the athletic department and campus partners. She also serves as the primary liaison for numerous external vendors and is responsible for organizing team travel and the logistical planning that supports every facet of the program.
Since arriving on South Main, Yero has helped guide the Owls to sustained success, including the 2022 Conference USA Championship, an NCAA Tournament Second Round appearance in 2022, the program's transition into the American Athletic Conference, and the 2025 AAC Championship. During the 2025 season, Rice posted a 27-4 overall record, captured the AAC regular-season and tournament championships, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Before being promoted to Director of Volleyball Operations, Yero served as Rice's Graduate Assistant while completing her master's degree in Liberal Studies focusing on Sports Psychology. Prior to joining the Owls, she spent four seasons as a student manager for the Baylor Volleyball program, where she assisted with team operations, equipment, travel logistics, and daily practice responsibilities.
Sophia Yero is married to Garrett Yero.
