Jimmy Walsh is in his first season with the Owls as a graduate assistant working with the Rice special teams units.
Walsh joins the Owls from Merrimack College where he coached the running backs and was co-special teams coordinator.
Walsh spent 2018 and 2019 as a graduate assistant at Springfield College, where he served as special teams coordinator and also worked with the outside linebackers. In 2019, Walsh's special teams unit was tied for first in the nation with four return touchdowns, led the NEWMAC Conference in punts blocked (3) and kickoff return average (21.9), and tied for second in NEWMAC in net punting (31.5). They also had zero blocked kicks allowed, zero touchdowns allowed, zero turnovers, zero fakes or onside kicks converted against, and zero change of possession penalties.
Before Springfield, Walsh spent 2017 on the staff at Bates College working with Bates' cornerbacks. In 2016, he spent his first year in coaching at Phillips Academy Andover where he worked with the team's defensive backs and wide receivers.
Walsh graduated from Bates in 2016 and earned his master's degree from Springfield in 2020.
