Hans Straub is in his fifth year as the head strength & conditioning coach for Rice Athletics.
Since his arrival in January of 2018, the Owl’s Strength and Conditioning program has incorporated a number of cutting edge technological advances in order to maximize the potential for each student-athlete. He introduced the Functional Movement Screening protocol, a systematic approach to identifying potential injury risk for all athletes under his supervision. Additionally, the Brian Patterson Sports Performance Center has been outfitted with the latest technology from VALD Performance, one of the leaders in Sports Science and Analytics. Rice Football implements the Nordbord and Force Decks products to help identify performance markers, identify potential injury risk and aid in the return to play rehabilitation protocols.
Straub joined the Owls from Stanford where he served the past two years and the Director of Olympic Sports Performance, with specific oversight for baseball, women's swimming, and women's gymnastics.
He joined the Cardinal program in 2015 after directing the Strength & Conditioning programs for Saint Leo University (2014-15) and the University of South Florida (2011-13).
Before joining the USF athletic department, Straub served as the top assistant Sports Performance coach for football at Stanford and was heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the Sports Performance program.
Preceding his work at Stanford, Straub spent five years on the Strength & Conditioning staff at the University of Washington, as well as four years of service at the University of San Diego. During his time at Washington, he worked closely with the softball, baseball, and women's volleyball programs. While at the University of San Diego, he worked with a variety of the 16 Torero programs, including baseball, softball, men's soccer, men's and women's tennis, men's golf, swimming and diving, and men's and women's rowing.
He is a 2002 graduate of Towson (Md.) University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and in 2015, he finished his Master's Degree in exercise science from the University of Texas at El Paso.
