Chancey, Ruf Earn American Weekly Honors

IRVING – The Rice soccer team earned two weekly awards for the American Conference, with Leah Chancey repeating as the American Offensive Player of the Week and Kirsten Ruf earning the American Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Chancey powered the Rice offense to a 1-0 week, recording her first career brace in a 2-0 win at Lamar Sunday night. This marked Chancey's first career multi-goal game, giving her five goals on the season and 16 in her career.
She has scored a goal in three straight games and has scored the game-winning goal in back-to-back games. Chancey was the American Offensive Player of the Week last week.
Ruf receives her first career conference honor, after making eight saves in goal in Rice's 2-0 win over Lamar. This was the second shutout win of the season for the Owls.
Rice (5-1) opens the American Conference schedule Thursday night on the road against UAB.
