Men’s Golf Set to Host Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HOUSTON — The Rice Men's Golf team will host the first of two tournaments this year when it hosts the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, Sept. 29-30, at Westwood Golf Club in Houston.

TEAM FIELD

Joining Rice in the 14-team field are Abilene Christian, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Prairie View A&M, UT-Arlington, UTRGV, Texas Southern, Utah Valley, Valparaiso. LSU will send individuals.

Braeden Hoyt – Individual … seeing first action of the year … last year, participated in six events … had a 75.53 stroke average … had his best finish at the All-American Individual (3/17-18), tying for 23rd-place … tied for 41st-place at the HCU Husky Invitational (10/28-29) … tied for 54th-place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, where he carded a season-best 73 in the second round (9/30-10/1).

Davis Byrd – Individual … has a 74.33 stroke average … two rounds of par or better … tied for 41^st-place at the Argent Financial Classic, where he set career-lows for 36-hole score (145) and 54-hole score (216) … in 2023-24, participated in nine events … had a 75.81 stroke average … three rounds of par or better … tied the lowest round of his career when he fired a final round 69 at the Louisiana Classics (3/12) … tied for 33rd-place at the Bentwater Intercollegiate (2/12-13) … tied for 34th-place at the All-American Intercollegiate (3/18-19).

PAIRINGS

Play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. The Owls will tee off from holes No. 1-4 and will compete in groups with student-athletes from Houston and Louisiana. Tuesday's tee times and pairings will depend on results following the previous round.

UP NEXT

Following the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, the Owls will head to Dallas next week for the Trinity Forest Invitational on Oct. 5-7.
