The 2025 Campaign
Rice soccer is back as the Owls open the new season Thursday night against Houston Christian at Holloway Field. Rice then heads to UTRGV for the first road game of the season before returning home for Incarnate Word next Thursday.
Last Season
The Owls are coming off a 12-6-2 season, where Rice advanced to the American Semifinals. Leah Chancey was named the American Offensive Player of the Year with Lilly Reuscher, Kat Lazor, Faith Hutchins and Coach Lee also earning conference recognition.
Take a Chance(y) On Me
Leah Chancey checked into the TopDrawerSoccer Top 100 list to open the 2025 season at No. 67. Chancey led the conference in goals (nine), points (22), shot accuracy (.528), shots on goal per game (1.40), and was second in game-winning goals (4), third in goal per game (.45), and fourth in points per game (1.10). She had a Rice record-breaking and NCAA-leading eight consecutive matches with a goal, and finished the season ranked in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 100 at No. 99, the seventh Rice soccer player to be ranked at the end of the season.
Rice vs. HCU
This is the seventh meeting between the two schools, with Rice leading the series 6-0. This is the first meeting since the 2022 season, when the Owls won 1-0 at Holloway. Rice is 5-0 at home against HCU.
Preseason Honors
After posting 12 wins a season ago, Rice soccer was selected third in the 2025 American Coaches Preseason Poll. Eileen Albers, Leah Chancey and Lilly Reuscher were all named to the American Watch List.

Dash Legend to South Main
Legendary Houston Dash goalkeeper and Olympic bronze medalist Jane Campbell is set to join the Rice soccer staff ahead of the 2025 season as a volunteer coach. Regarded as one of the greatest keepers in the NWSL, Campbell has appeared in over 150 games with the Houston Dash. She has also been part of the United States National Team, making the Olympic team in 2020 and serving as an alternate in 2024. She was voted at the 2023 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year.
