HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's tennis earned a spot in the NCAA field of 64 for the second-straight year, earning the fourth seed in the College Station Regional.
It is Rice's 14th appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2000 and fourth under head coach Efe Ustundag.
Rice will match up with regional host Texas A&M in the first round, while Baylor and Nebraska will face off in the other first round match. The winners of those matches will meet the following day to determine who advances from the regional.
The College Station Regional is paired with the Winston-Salem Regional, so the winners of the two regions will meet to determine who advances to the NCAA Championship in Waco, Texas.
Rice qualified for the NCAA Tournament by way of the American Athletic Conference's automatic bid, with the Owls winning its 16th conference championship and first in the AAC. The Owls avenged a regular season loss against fourth-seed and No. 61 Tulsa to open the tournament before knocking off top-seeded and No. 23 USF in the semis. Rice earned the AAC crown with a victory over the host, No. 2 seed, and 50th-ranked Memphis Tigers on Sunday.
