
Rice Drops Conference Opener at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back, as Rice dropped its American Conference opener, 97-48, Wednesday afternoon from the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The Story
Tulsa made five of its first six shots, as it scored the game's first 12 points. But Nick Anderson scored eight straight as Rice answered with 11 consecutive points, taking advantage of five Tulsa turnovers. The Golden Hurricane, though, came right back, going on a 13-3 run to take an 11-point lead. Anderson's second three-pointer sent the Owls on an 8-2 run to pull within five. But after exchanging baskets, Tulsa scored 10 straight points before Cam Carroll's three sent Rice into halftime trailing, 40-27.
TU opened the second half scoring five of the first seven points. Broadnax hit a three, as Rice scored six straight to pull within 45-35. But Jaylen Lawal scored 11 points in a 13-1 Tulsa run over a three minute span, extending its lead to 58-36. The teams traded After trading points, the Golden Hurricane went on a 26-3 run, putting the game away.
