
Rice Shines in Dual Win at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – Rice secured its second straight dual win with a 172-128 victory over Tulane on Friday.
The Owls opened the weekend with a commanding performance, earning 10 first-place finishes. The team of Ava Hamblett, Bella Zhang, Lily Archibald and Avery Karacz won the 400 medley relay to start the swimming portion of the meet.
Portello and Hamblett each claimed two individual titles. Portello took first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:01.61) and 500 freestyle (4:53.54), while Hamblett won the 50 backstroke (26.10) and 200 backstroke (2:00.44).
In the 50 breaststroke, Siiri Einio finished first in 29.31, just ahead of Reese Cole, who placed second in 29.50. Cole went on to win the 200 breaststroke (2:17.60).
Archibald won the 50 butterfly (25.09), followed by Zara Bolton in second (25.24). Zhang wrapped up the swimming events with a first-place finish in the 100 individual medley (56.61).
On the boards, Antonina Harned won the 3-meter (318.08) and finished second in the 1-meter (266.25), while Morgan Robson placed third in the 3-meter (261.75).
The Owls return to action Saturday at noon for the LSU Quad Meet, where they will face LSU, Tulane and Houston. The meet will stream live on ESPN+.
