Owls see success on day one of US College Cup Invitational

The Rice men's tennis team opened day one of the US College Cup Invitational with a dominant showing in doubles and a strong singles performance in Torreón, Mexico.
All four Owls saw success in doubles behind steady teamwork and clutch play. Kabeer Kapasi and Josh Mandelbaum led the way with two wins against UTSA pairings, while Rafael Botran and Gabriel Porras added two more victories, including a tiebreak thriller against Abilene Christian.
In singles, Rice picked up three wins in four matches. Kapasi and Mandelbaum each won in straight sets, while Porras battled through a tight first set to secure his victory. Botran pushed his opponent Filip Apltauer of TCU to a first-set tiebreak before falling in two sets.
