Rice Continues Strong Showing at ITA Texas Regional

COLLEGE STATION – The Rice men's tennis team continued its strong play Saturday at the ITA Texas Regional, advancing several players in both singles and doubles competition.

In singles action, Petro Kuzmenok defeated Alejandro Hernandez 6-3, 6-2 to move into Sunday's round, where he will face Luc Koenig at 10:30 a.m. Gabriel Porras battled back for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Erienne Marty of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and will meet Tiago Pires at noon.

Noey Do also advanced, topping Blake Anderson 6-2, 6-4 to earn a noon matchup with Khololwam Montsi.

In doubles play, Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro earned an 8-5 win over Baylor's Phillipp-Maximilian Huebert and Merse Deli and will face Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Tommy Czaplinski and Porras defeated Togan Tokac and Tiago Pires 8-6 to advance, while Kabeer Kapasi and Yair Sarouk also moved on after an 8-5 win over Maxwell Lindstedt and Fabian Anthin. The pair will take on No. 2-seeded Zsombor Velcz and Connor Schalkwyk at 9 a.m.

Play continues Sunday in College Station.
