
Golf Set to Host Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HOUSTON — After a hiatus last year, the Rice Golf team is set the host the Bayou City Collegiate Classic,
Sept. 30-Oct. 1, at Westwood Golf Club in Houston.
TEAM FIELD
The Owls will field two teams in the tournament and are joined by Abilene Christian, Houston, Houston Christian, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, Samford, Sam Houston, UT-Arlington, UTRGV, and Wichita State. LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M will send individuals.

THE LINEUP
Rice will feature two teams. The A Team will consist of junior Lukas Boandl, sophomore Reggie Zhu, freshman Daniel Zou, sophomore Jaivir Pande, and senior Blake Benson. The B Team will feature redshirt sophomore Davis Byrd, sophomore Braeden Hoyt, graduate Nicholas Li, freshman William Johnson, and senior Raghav Chugh.
A TEAM
Lukas Boandl – No. 1 position … leads the team with a 69.33 stroke average and four rounds of par or better … has four rounds in the 60's … the 69.33 stroke average is the lowest through two tournaments in school history … won his first career tournament at the Argent Financial Classic (9/8-10), finishing -10 to become the fourth golfer in school history to shoot -10 or better in a tournament … tied the second lowest score in the first round when he fired a 65 … tied or 18th at the Ram Masters Invitational (9/17-18).
Reggie Zhu – No. 2 position … second on the team with a 71.83 stroke average … two rounds of par or better … tied for 20th-place at the Argent Financial Classic (9/8-10) … fired a season-best 69 in the second round of the Ram Masters Invitational (9/17-18) … AAC Golfer of the Week (2/21/24).
Daniel Zou – No. 3 position … is third on the team with a 72.00 stroke average … second on the team with three rounds of par or better … in his first career tournament, tied for 34th-place at the Argent Financial Classic (9/8-10), where he fired a 72 in the first round … tied for 24th-place at the Ram Masters Invitational (9/17-18), where he closed the tournament with back-to-back 69's.
Jaivir Pande – No. 4 position … has a 72.67 stroke average … two rounds of par or better … earned his first career top-20 finish at the Ram Masters Invitational (9/17-18), tying for 15th-place at -1 … closed the tournament with rounds of 68-67 … tied for 71st-place at the Argent Financial Classic (9/8-10).
Blake Benson – No. 5 position … has a 72.83 stroke average … tied for 15th-place at the Ram Masters Invitational (9/17-18) at -1 … fired a career-low 67 in the final round.

William Johnson – No. 4 position … seeing his first career collegiate action … averaged 69.5 strokes per round in his junior events...won the American Junior Golf Association's Amundi Evian Showcase, firing a two-day score of -10 134, recording 13 birdies and an eagle in the tournament...won eight events on the New England PGA Junior Tour, and in 2020, was named its Player of the Year after earning five Top 10 finishes, including a pair of runner-ups...won the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's World Golf Village Fall Junior Open last year while finishing runner-up at the Pennsylvania Spring Junior Open...in his junior career, he averaged 73.7 strokes per round.

Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Rice's A Team will tee off from holes No. 1-3 and will compete in groups with student-athletes from Abilene Christian and Sam Houston. Its B Team will tee off from holes 11-13 and will compete with student-athletes from Houston Christian and Lamar. Tuesday's tee times and pairings will depend on results following the previous round.
