Van der Westhuizen Named Second Team CSC Academic All-American

HOUSTON – Rice women's track & field sophomore Mckyla Van der Westhuizen was named a Second Team CSC Academic All-American for women's track & field/cross country, the College Sports Communicators announced.
A native of Gauteng, South Africa, Van der Westhuizen currently holds a 3.70 GPA, majoring in sports medicine and exercise physiology. She was named to the 2023 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned a C-USA Academic Medal, while also being named a 2023 USTFCCCA All-Academic.
Van der Westhuizen earned All-American honors both academically and athletically for the 2024 season, also earning First Team All-American honors after a third-place finish in the javelin at the 2024 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
She earned her first conference title this season, winning the javelin at the 2024 AAC Outdoor Championships. Her mark at the AAC meet also earned her second All-Conference honor.
During the 2023 campaign, Van der Westhuizen earned Second Team All-American honors with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
