HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Rob Lanier has announced Monday afternoon the signing of transfer PJ Carter (Atlanta, Ga./UTSA) to a grant-in-aid for the 2024-25 school year.
"PJ is highly skilled and brings with him a tremendous skill set," said Lanier. "He is a strong ball-handler and an elite-level shooter. His familiarity with the (American Athletic Conference) and his overall experience gives our team a veteran presence. We are very excited about the significant impact PJ can add to our program."
Carter, a 6-5 guard, comes to South Main after spending last year at UTSA, where he was third on the team with 9.5 points per game. He also led the team and was sixth in the AAC in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 40.3%. Carter scored double-figures 14 times and 20 points three times, including a season-high 27 points against Temple.
Carter joins guard/forward Kellen Amos (Houston, Texas/Central Connecticut State), guards Denver Anglin (Montclair, N.J./SMU), Trae Broadnax (Savannah, Ga./USC Upstate), Aaron Powell (Valley Village, Calif.), and Jalen Smith (Orlando, Fla./SMU), and forwards Jimmy Oladokun, Jr. (Los Angeles, Calif./San Diego), Trey Patterson (Somerset, N.J./Villanova) and Caden Powell (Waco, Texas/Wyoming) in the 2024-25 recruiting class.
