IRVING – After a record-breaking weekend at the Victor Lopez Classic this past weekend, Alice Taylor was named the AAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
"It's been wonderful having Alice this year. She's made a great adjustment from competing in New Zealand to competing in the NCAA," said women's track and field head coach Jim Bevan. "It's really nice to break a school record on your home track. Now we have identical twins, one with the indoor record and one with the outdoor record. Our dynamic duo."
Taylor's clearance of 1.83m (6-0) in the high jump not only won the event, but set a new school record, previously held by her sister, Josie. The mark ranks her first in the AAC, first in the NCAA West and third overall in the NCAA.
She also finished 10th in javelin with a throw of 34.85m (114-4), which ranks her 16th in the AAC.
Rice will head to Austin for the Texas Relays this weekend.
