Swim and Dive Drops Meet to North Texas

DENTON, Texas - The Rice Owls swimming and diving teams fell 131-112 to the North Texas swimming and diving teams on Friday afternoon in Denton, Texas.
"Megan Phillip finished third on both boards and has now qualified for both the 1 and 3 meter boards," head coach Seth Huston said about some of his player's performances. "Our distance swimmers raced really well tonight with Amelia Kane, Ella Dyson and Ava Hamblett going first, second, and third in the 1000, and Ava Hamblett pulled away for the 500 free victory. We will be looking to bounce back tomorrow against SMU."
Rice opened the meet with first and second place finishes in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, where Mimi Filkin, Siiri Einio, Catherine Eland, and Morgan Bartley finished first with a time of 1:46.05, while Neta Ussishkin, Reese Cole, Jessica Lawton, and Ava Portello followed that up with a time of 1:47.08.
The 100 Yard Freestyle followed, where Kane (10:18.59), Dyson (10:18.93), and Hamblett (10:30.74) pulled off the one-two-three finish. Rice's next first place finish came in the 500 Yard Freestyle with Hamblett finishing with a time of 5:01.87.
Megan Phillip posted third place finishes in both the one and three meter diving events. Her three meter score was 305.55, while her one meter score was 286.88. She qualified for the one meter diving zones last week, while now qualifying for the three meter diving zones with tonight's score.
Rice will return to action tomorrow to take on SMU in Dallas.
