IRVING – After breaking a school record in the first meet of the season, Kennedy Gamble was named the AAC Female Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm so proud of Kennedy," said women's track and field head coach Jim Bevan. "Breaking a 27-year-old record in the first meet of the year! A fantastic start for a fantastic leader. What a great way to start our inaugural American Athletic Conference season!"
Gamble opened the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational by tying the school record in the 60-meter dash prelims and later broke the record in the finals with a time of 7.36 seconds. The mark slightly topped the previous school record of 7.38s set by TaNisha Mills in 1997.
Gamble finished third in the 60-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.29 seconds.
The Owls will be back in action next week at the University of Houston for the Robert Platt Invitational.
