Dyson Finishes Fourth at European Junior Open Water Championships

Owls open season with Fall Splash on October 13-14
Corfu, Greece: Rice sophomore Ella Dyson finished fourth in the 2023 European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships on Saturday.
Dyson, who captured the CSCAA Open Water Championship last December as well as the American Athletic Conference 1650 freestyle title as a freshman, was involved in a tight three-way battle behind winner Bettina Fabio of Hungary (2:04:19.9). Dyson, Spain's Angela Martinez and Hungary's Mira Szimcsak were less than 1.5 seconds apart heading into the final lap. Martinez finished second in 2:04:35.0, Szimcsak was third in 2:04:35.1 and Dyson fourth in 2:04:36.8.
Dyson and her Rice teammates will open their 2023-24 collegiate season in two weeks when they host Denver and Houston for the annual Fall Splash on October 13 & 14 at the Rice Competition Pool.
