Owls with Impressive Showing at J Fred Duckett Twilight

HOUSTON – The Rice women's track and field team had several event wins at the 19th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Invite at Rice University's Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field.
Tara Simpson-Sullivan opened the competition with a victory in the hammer throw, her third outdoor hammer title this season. Mckyla Van der Westhuizen continued her strong freshman campaign with another javelin title while Ginnie Okafor and Savannah Simms provided a 1-2 punch for the Owls in the triple jump. Erna Gunnarsdottir rounded out the field event wins with the shot put title while Julie Perez finished second in discus.
On the track, Kennedy Gamble had a great showing with a second-place finish in the 200m while finishing third in the 100m. Caitlin Wosika took home the 1500m event title while Alyssa Balandran and Taigen Hunter-Galvan finished 2-3 for the Owls in the 800m.
The Owls had 24 top-10 finishers with 14 placing in the top five. Rice took home five event titles.
