
Balandran, Simpson-Sullivan Set Records at BU

BOSTON – The Rice women's track and field team had three athletes compete this past weekend at the Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier at BU (Boston University), with Alyssa Balandran, Tara Simpson-Sullivan and Taigen Hunter-Galvan all competing for the Owls.
Simpson-Sullivan set a facility record in the weight throw, while also winning the event, with a throw of 21.75m (71'4.25"), marking her fourth-straight meet win for weight throw. Balandran followed up a great showing at the C-USA Indoor Championships by breaking a 21-year Rice record in the 800 meter with a time of 2:04.46, finishing 10th in the event. Hunter-Galvan finished 14th in the 800 with a time of 2:06.44.
Rice will have two athletes representing the Owls at the NCAA Indoor Championships, with Simpson-Sullivan and Erna Gunnarsdottir both qualifying.
