
Swimming Places Fifth at the SMU Invite

In Brief: Rice swimming finished in fifth place with a total of 509 points at the SMU Invite at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center in Dallas, Texas. The Owls recorded another five top-five finishes on Saturday.
The Details: The highlight of the Owls' day came from junior Arielle Hayon in the 200-yard butterfly. Hayon won the event with a time of 1:58.84, a time which ranks second in the AAC this season. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, graduate senior Shannon Campbell posted a second-place finish with a time of 16:32.58 while junior Amelia Kane finished third with a time of 16:43.29. Campbell's time ranks first in the AAC this season with Kane currently ranking third. Rice's final individual podium finish came from senior Imogen Meers in the 100-yard freestyle. Meers placed third with a time of 49.26, ranking first among AAC swimmers this season. The Owls' final podium finish of the weekend came in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the quartet of Meers and Hayon plus senior Mimi Filkin and Elizabeth Myers placed fifth with a time of 3:21.88.
