
Ella Dyson Named AAC Swimming Athlete of the Week

HOUSTON, Texas — Rice sophomore swimmer Ella Dyson was named the AAC Swimmer of the Week, it was announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.
In the Owls' Dualapalooza against Houston and Denver on Oct. 13-14, Dyson posted three victories and six total top-five finishes. Dyson won the First Session 1,000-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 10:01.81, the Second Session 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 4:55.95, and the Third Session 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:05.54. Dyson also set a new personal-best time in the 200-yard backstroke, placing fourth in the second session event with a time of 2:05.84. The native of Marlow, England, also placed second in the First Session 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.89 and third in the Third Session 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.84. Dyson's times in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles rank first in the AAC this season.
In Rice's unscored time trial meet against St. Thomas (TX) this past weekend at home, Dyson won the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:07.61. The sophomore also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.15 and finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.84.
Rice next returns to competition at the SMU Invite against SMU, Drury, Hawai'i, Miami, and Yale on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16-18, in Dallas, Texas.
