SETTING THE SCENE
The Owls (5-1) continue their seven-match homestand this weekend when they welcome in the Brown Bears (2-2), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (0-8), and Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-0) in the Rice Adidas Invitational.

Rice made their home debut on Monday, sweeping McNeese in straight sets for their fourth sweep of the season.

RICE NOTES

Rice is receiving votes (27) in the most recent AVCA Coaches Top-25 Poll, a third consecutive week to open the season.
For the second time in as many weeks, Rice junior libero Nia McCardell was selected the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (9/5). McCardell continued her stellar early season play along the Owls backline by amassing 47 digs across eight sets (5.87 per set) as the Owls went 1-1 at the Oregon Invitational last weekend. In Rice's 3-2 loss to the No. 18 Ducks, McCardell collected a season-high 32 digs. The Missouri City, Texas native currently ranks No. 21 in the NCAA in digs per set (5.14).
In addition to the Owls rankings 13th in the NCAA in team digs per set (17.59), Rice also ranks 23rd in the country in opponents hitting percentage (.138).
