HOUSTON — After a 2-0 weekend to start conference play, Rice Soccer midfielder Serena Pham was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, while Bella Killgore was tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Week.
The duo helped lead the Owls to a pair of victories, opening C-USA play with a 2-1 victory at UTSA followed by a 3-0 blanking of FIU.
Pham contributed on three of Rice's five goals this week. Against UTSA, she assisted on both of Rice's goals, handing the Roadrunners their first home loss of the season. She followed that up by scoring the opening goal in the shutout of FIU, giving the Chantilly, Va., native her first career game-winning goal.
Killgore began the week facing just two shots on goal at UTSA. She followed that up by making four in the shutout over FIU. The Houston native also scored her team-leading third goal of the season. With the shutout, Killgore became just the seventh goalkeeper in C-USA history to record 300 saves and 20 shutouts in their career. She also tied UAB's Katie Forbis (2003-06) for 13th-place in Conference USA history with 323 career saves.
The Owls return to the pitch this Sunday, Sept. 25, when it travels to Ruston, La., to face Louisiana Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed by CUSAtv.
