HOUSTON — Florida State scored early and never allowed Rice to get going as the Owls fell to the eighth-ranked Seminoles, 5-0, Sunday afternoon from Holloway Field.
The Details
Killgore was tested early and often. In the first 10 minutes, Beata Olsson got off three shots, with Killgore making one save and the other two missing the net. She then made two saves, one off a free kick and another a sliding save off Olsson. But in the 20th minute, Killgore came out and tried to make another sliding save on Olsson, but she got the ball past her and into the right corner for the 1-0 lead. The Owls had their best chance in the 33rd minute when Grace Collins got behind the defense and went in alone on FSU goalkeeper Mia Justus. But her shot was right on Justus, who made the save. Two minutes later, the Seminoles took advantage as Onyi Echegini took a pass from Kaitlyn Zipay and fired a shot into the back of the net as Florida State took a 2-0 lead into halftime. After an FSU yellow card early in the second half, Killgore's free kick was right on net, but Justus made the save. But six minutes later, Florida State's Maria Alagoa scored two goals in less than a minute, as FSU increased its lead to 4-0. The Seminoles added one more in the 69th minute.
